 Joe Cell
Want to build a Joe Cell? You aren’t alone, my friend. Storm Copper Components, Co. receives call after call asking for stainless steel as well as copper sheets to complete homemade fuel cells. While we cannot confirm or deny the benefits of building a fuel cell, we do like the idea of making vehicles more fuel-efficient.
Fuel cell enthusiasts tell us that the stainless steel works best for this application. Custom cut, 304 stainless steel, (.048) sections can be packaged and shipped with no hassle.
An actual fuel cell core (seen above) is comprised of a layered bi-cubic stack of stainless steel welded together.
What is a fuel cell? An electrochemical conversion device. It creates fuel through electricity (via the anode) and an oxidant (via the cathode). They react in the presence of an electrolyte. The reactants flow into the cell; the reaction products flow out of the cell, and the electrolyte remains inside. Fuel cells can operate virtually continuously as long as the needed flows are sustained. Many combinations of fuel and oxidant are possible. A hydrogen cell uses hydrogen as fuel and oxygen as oxidant.
E-mail us to order your stainless steel materials needed for a fuel cell project.
